A screen cleaner is a great tool for maintaining your expensive television, projector, or computer. Unfortunately, not all screen cleaners are created equal. Some may not be compatible with your device and some screen cleaners may even cause more damage than good. So, to maintain your favorite (and costly) electronics, you will need one of the finest quality screen cleaners around. According to Consumer Reports, high-pressure chemicals such as alcohol and ammonia found in most multipurpose home cleaners such as Windex can destroy your screen’s protective coating causing it to crack.
The Consumer Reports tested nine different brands of screen cleaners that can be found at most drug stores, department stores, and online. While there are many positive consumer reports about the effectiveness of certain brands, there were also several bad reviews. Some of the tests found that some screen cleaners were left on the windows longer than necessary while others didn’t seem to work at all. This may leave you wondering if you should spend the extra money on a specific brand or not.
Before you buy, here are a few things you should know. First, consumers have tested some of the cleaning solutions found at your local hardware store for bacteria, which may cause a serious allergy attack. Another problem consumers report is that some chemicals used to clean electronics, particularly those for laptops, emit high levels of lead which may be toxic or could be causing a health risk. Consumers also suggest using an organic cleaning solution instead of a chemical to keep your electronics free of bacteria and other harmful allergens. If you don’t mind spending a few extra dollars to make sure that you and your family stay healthy, then this option may be right for you. However, if you’re allergic to some chemicals or worried that your new electronic equipment might cause a health risk, then go for screen cleaners with the highest standards of safety for consumers.
To test whether a specific brand of screen cleaners is effective, simply wipe smudges away from your monitor. Smudges are smudges that have been left behind by fingers, sweat, or dirt. If the smudges are completely off your screen, then the cleaning product was probably effective. If smudges are only partially off the screen, then the specific brand of screen cleaners you used might not be as effective. It is important to note that different types of smudges respond differently to screen cleaners.
An effective way to disinfect your electronics is to use a cotton ball and a microfiber cloth. Using a microfiber cloth will ensure that the microfiber cloth will be able to pick up bacteria and other germs without too much damage to your electronics. Simply dampen a cotton ball with the anti-bacterial solution and wipe away smudges on the screen. Be sure to dry the microfiber cloth after you have used it. Many screen cleaners come with different instructions for using the cleaning solution properly so be sure to follow them closely.

The test, which will allow you to determine how effective the product is will give you confidence that you will be able to keep your electronics clean and free of bacteria and germs.
